Shoe Redo: Rickrack Posies (Reupholstering your shoes)

I love this. It's like a furniture makeover for your feet.

And I don't know why but I've been into the combination of denim and red. I think there's a couple different ways this could have been done. This is what I came up with in the few short hours I had to myself last afternoon.

I think you will like this because I describe how to recover a shoe with a little fabric and a little Mod Podge. IMAGINE the possibilities. I have about two more just sitting on the bench.

    Materials:
Fabric (enough to cover your shoes)
    Mod Podge
    Scissors
    Any embellishments (buttons, ribbons)
    Brush for glue
    Razor blade or exacto knife
    Hot glue

Step 1: Cover your shoe and cut your fabric. Cover the shoe with more than enough fabric because as you stretch the fabric over the shoe it will shift in directions.

I would recommend cutting as wide as it is long and vice versa (not like I did:)

Step 2: Cover the top of your shoe with mod podge.

Step 3: Cover the glue with your fabric. Stretch the fabric around the toe and rounded corners so that the fabric is as flat and wrinkle free as you can get it.

Step 4: Continue down the shoe the way you had in step 3.

Step 5. When you reach near the heel, make a cut up the middle and then trim around to make a circle that is 1/2" away from the inside of the shoe.

Step 6: Fold one side of the fabric over the middle of the heel.

Step 7: On the other side of the heel, coat with glue on the wrong side of the fabric.

    Step 8: Fold over 1/4"

    Step 9: And glue down.

Step 10: Make cuts in the extra fabric in the inside of the shoe.

Step 11: Use hot glue to glue the fabric to the inside of the shoe.

Step 12: Using your razor blade cut the fabric as close as you can to the sole.

Step 13: Add your embellishments with the hot glue gun. I want to add that when you cover the entire shoe with modpodge in the end, everything will become darker so choose colors that are a bit brighter that you want the end result to be. Imagine what the material would look like if you soaked it in water. That's what it will look like permanently.

Step 14: Apply Mod Podge to entire shoe and let dry for 24 hours.

Suri & Katie went shopping to Steven Alan store in LA on Saturday, 8.

Suri is wearing another one short-sleeves gown from Esme Loungewear, imho its too short and too thin to be considered as an appropriate piece of clothing to wear in public..

    >>slow updates are due to this super-boring pajama style... :)

The 'Oh Dear' Frock Grosgrain Giveaway CLOSED

I'm calling this the 'Oh Dear' frock because that's what Brian said when he walked in the door, yesterday morning. I can't even remember why but I do remember telling him at the time that's that what I would call the dress. And I think it's suiting.

The frock is dark navy blue. The material is thin and finespun. I added a built in nylon liner. I also added a band of opaque navy silk-like material at the bottom.

Pleated ruffled nylon lines the neck and bodice. Four navy fabric covered buttons line the front. An interesting detail are the inverted pleats that surround the front of the bodice. I modeled it after this a cool Modcloth frock I saw a couple weeks ago.

This photo shoot took a lot of muscle on my part. I had to push our bed from one end of the room to the other....by myself! It was a busy morning and Brian was getting ready to go to his mother's house. But you know what? I liked it better there. I tried to convince him to keep it that way but at the end of the day we just ended up pushing it back.

But he did get me this modcloth ring for mother's day (
it's an inside thing). So he's good in my book. Many of you said that you would like to enter more giveaways, but have various issues with linking. Of course, I want anyone that is interested in entering a giveaway to be able to do so.

Therefore, from now on, giveaways can be entered in three ways:
    1) By linking (to your blog, facebook, myspace, or any other site)
    2) By leaving a comment without a link or
    3) By linking and leaving a comment (this will be worth 2 entries which will better your chances of winning). Find more info under the FAQ page.
If you are leaving a link just use the 'create a link' at the bottom of this post or simply creating a post on your blog and including this link.If you use blogger just use the "create a link" link at the bottom of this post. If you don't use blogger, that's fine too. Just create a link on your page as you normally would and I will see it using Technorati.

What will Cricut think of next?

There was a time when I got really into cake decorating. Like really into it.

This is what I made for Lily's first birthday.

With sewing on my plate, cake has had to take a backseat. But if I had this new machine I might just have to restructure my time to make it fit!

It precisely cuts frosting sheets and gum paste.

Imagine all the really cool things you could make to impress your friends!

"I'm so pleased with my new dress! I got compliments without anyone knowing I MADE it!! I plan on doing variations of this more than once. Ha, just don't look too close! "

"I experienced the same thing! Everyone just plain didn't notice my mistakes and complimented anyway, oblivious to the fact that I made it. I also plan on making variations. It's nice feeling having a bodice pattern that fits me; I feel much more free to vary the neckline/skirt now, rather than having to start from scratch."
