the reversible july dress

Believe it or not this is the first piece of clothing I've made for lily or molly. In the past, the price of their clothes was negligible but now that lily is getting older, the price is noticeable. It's not that I can't afford to buy her new clothes, just not the kind of new clothes I love (i.e. gymboree dresses). This was the result of my frustration. I used a pattern to cut the fabric but improvised when sewing the pieces together and made a REVERSIBLE DRESS. Soo cooler than anything I could have bought at Gymboree, not to mention, cheaper. Add all the bragging rights I get when friends ask where I bought such an adorable outfit. Lily's such a lucky girl. Today, Brian played hooky and we visited the local IMAX theatre. All the women turned their heads and smiled with pleasure as Lily walked by. I plan on making a couple more simpler, reversible dresses. Wouldn't you buy it?

The Lynn Bag

While sitting in the pediatric waiting room a woman's diaper bag caught my eye. It was quilted with a large abstract floral print. I thought about it later that afternoon and decided to try to make one of my own. Of course when I went to the fabric store none of the pre-quilted fabrics were of my liking so I picked a more stylish pattern and quilted all the pieces before sewing them together which added three times more work to the project. It took about a week to complete in my spare time but I'm pretty pleased with the end result. I got several compliments at my bi-weekly MOPS meeting. Imagine their surprise when I told them it was homemade. Definitely worth the wait.

I named it the Lynn bag because the quilting reminds me of grandma but the pattern is more hip and trendy. Grandma Lynn- a character from "The Lovely Bones" was described as the antithesis of what a grandmother should be, stylish and quick witted. So I name this bag after her.

Pretty things for my car

When you learn to sew it is both a boon and a burden. Suddenly all those cute things you might have bought without any physical effort other than typing in your credit card number become 70% cheaper if you sew it yourself. Case in point- my previous car seat cover post. After looking at all those yummy fabrics I got jealous and dreamt of having one myself. The price was a little steep for me to sink a chunk of my very limited capital into, so I sifted through the simplicity stacks and found pattern 4636. Whatja think? Lily was so excited to sit in it she barely let me put on the final touches. I've been thinking about making one for Molly but I'll have to cut my own pattern for an infant version with hood. Now that I finally got my cigarette lighter fixed, the new seat will go nice with my new XM:) No more five year old Beyonce. Fred, Ethel and Lucy here I come.
Oh one more thing, the simplicity pattern came with a shopping cart cover. I might try that one next. If you have any questions about the pattern just send me a message or comment!
