Shoe Redo: Rickrack Posies (Reupholstering your shoes)

I love this. It's like a furniture makeover for your feet.

And I don't know why but I've been into the combination of denim and red. I think there's a couple different ways this could have been done. This is what I came up with in the few short hours I had to myself last afternoon.

I think you will like this because I describe how to recover a shoe with a little fabric and a little Mod Podge. IMAGINE the possibilities. I have about two more just sitting on the bench.

    Materials:
Fabric (enough to cover your shoes)
    Mod Podge
    Scissors
    Any embellishments (buttons, ribbons)
    Brush for glue
    Razor blade or exacto knife
    Hot glue

Step 1: Cover your shoe and cut your fabric. Cover the shoe with more than enough fabric because as you stretch the fabric over the shoe it will shift in directions.

I would recommend cutting as wide as it is long and vice versa (not like I did:)

Step 2: Cover the top of your shoe with mod podge.

Step 3: Cover the glue with your fabric. Stretch the fabric around the toe and rounded corners so that the fabric is as flat and wrinkle free as you can get it.

Step 4: Continue down the shoe the way you had in step 3.

Step 5. When you reach near the heel, make a cut up the middle and then trim around to make a circle that is 1/2" away from the inside of the shoe.

Step 6: Fold one side of the fabric over the middle of the heel.

Step 7: On the other side of the heel, coat with glue on the wrong side of the fabric.

    Step 8: Fold over 1/4"

    Step 9: And glue down.

Step 10: Make cuts in the extra fabric in the inside of the shoe.

Step 11: Use hot glue to glue the fabric to the inside of the shoe.

Step 12: Using your razor blade cut the fabric as close as you can to the sole.

Step 13: Add your embellishments with the hot glue gun. I want to add that when you cover the entire shoe with modpodge in the end, everything will become darker so choose colors that are a bit brighter that you want the end result to be. Imagine what the material would look like if you soaked it in water. That's what it will look like permanently.

Step 14: Apply Mod Podge to entire shoe and let dry for 24 hours.

Total Shoe ReDo: Cherry Clusters

Well, I've thought a little about the Total Shoe Redo idea. I have so many neat things I want to share that I couldn't fit them all in one week. But moreover, I can't find the time to make one shoe a day on top of sewing. So, I'm extending the Total Shoe Redo indefinitely. Whenever I have free time to make one I will post it.

Here's my latest idea. So cute.

All I did was paint a pair of flats like I did on Monday.

Then I took a green cord and threaded a red button through it and tied a knot.

I tied the rest of the cord in a bow and threaded another button through the other end of the green cord and secured it with a knot and cut the extra cord.

I then hot glued the piece to the shoe.

    Done. And totally cute:)

Total Shoe ReDo Day 1: Paint

    Materials: Old Shoes
Spray Primer (for glossy shoes only)
Spray Paint: Matte or Gloss, doesn't matter
    Clear Coat Spray Paint
    Paper Towels
    Packing Tape
    Razor Blade

    1. Choose your shoes. I love flats. I got these at the great Sal Val for a buck. They were a flattering shape but unfortunately, the color was a little boring and outdated.

    2. Stuff your shoes generously with paper towels so that the inside sides are hidden.

    3. Tape any soles. Be sure that the tape is sealed at the seams.

    4. Choose your paint. I had this awesome yellow sitting around the house but if I were to go out any buy something it would have probably been a light grass green. Any hardware store or craft store has a wide selection.

If your shoes are glossy I recommend spraying on a primer first.

    5. Spray shoes. Gloss or matte is fine.

    *Some Tips
Don't spray close to the shoes, it will cause dripping and an uneven finish.

Wait 15 minutes after you spray and once you can handle the shoes, turn them to the sides to get the spaces underneath.

    6. Once everything is dry, spray on a clear coat of spray paint. I'd wait a couple hours before you do this. I didn't at first and the paint did this weird wrinkle thing.

    7. Once dry, remove tape and towels.

    8. If there are places where your paint got onto the sole just use a razor blade or simply use your fingernails and scrap it off. It should still be very slightly tacky at this point, enough to scrap the paint off the sole easily.

    9. Let cure for at least 24 hours.

    Tomorrow: Floral Baubles.
