Cut out doily to mask shape, coat with lacquer make firmer, add faux diamonds, elastic to tie on each side.
The trick would be finding a paper doily that worked. Something with a long straight edge like this perhaps?
You might get lucky at the dollar store?

It's the newest glamor look for the 2011 Halloween holidays! Butterfly eyes. Martha's doing it and so can you! Tutorial here. Also, if you don't like the feeling of faux wings on your eyelashes then try doing it with just makeup. See image below. I think it looks more beautiful when you don't paint over the lid.
For even more butterfly effect, try painting your nails too (see below).

I saw Say Yes to Hoboken post her Mad Men Betty Draper and Don costume on her blog two years ago and bookmarked it for sometime in the future!
This is a good idea if you're going to a party or you've got some vintage clothes or have some time to make it to a thrift store but not enough time to sew a costume yourself.

I've never decorated my house for Halloween like I wish I could if money and time weren't an issue. 

I have a nice yellow and white house which would look great with some black and orange fall Halloween decorations.

Costume Fever

Well, it's that time of year! HALLOWEEN! My most favorite time of year to sew. I have a couple ideas for a big costume giveaway, I'm just debating which one to choose. I think I've have one pretty much picked but I have a couple more points to debate. In the meantime, please enjoy some costume ideas that I'll be posting daily. Here's a really good one.

When Brian and I went to Halloween parties in our 20s I'd always fall short in the idea department. One year I was a butterfly another year a 70s roller skater....not really worth a second look. Although, Brian once went as Alex from A Clockwork Orange (with the eyelashes, bowler hat, codpiece, cane, suspenders, boots and all) which I thought was pretty clever. Wish I had a picture of that to show you:(

I saw this and immediately wished I had a Halloween party to attend. Mary Poppins and Bert! This duo was created by Keiko Lynn who has the BEST makeup tutorials! I love the whole cockney look of the chimney sweep costume and how Mary Poppins looks feminine and beautiful yet not slutty. When pulled off from head to toe, it's a great idea!

I read once that the book's author P.L. Travers demanded that any suggestions of romance between Mary and Bert be eliminated from the Walt Disney movie although some subtle hints of romance, however, did find their way into the finished film. I guess the romantic in me always wanted there to be something between Mary and Bert so, for me, this costume is sort of a nod to that as well;)
